Mohammad Wasim, a former Pakistan selector, revealed some startling facts about Babar Azam, the PCB, and the cricket squad.
In an interview, former Pakistan selector Mohammad Wasim discussed his difficulties as the white-ball captain with Babat Azam, claiming the batsman was quite obstinate. When Azam led the ODI and T20I teams, including in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Wasim served as chief selector. The former cricket player for Pakistan revealed his relationship with Babar and claimed that the celebrity was extremely difficult to work with.
“It was painful to make him understand the advantages of changes. He was very stubborn, and I overstepped my limitations to get him on board with certain calls. He was not ready to accept changes,” Wasim told a local platform, as per Cricket Pakistan.
There have been criticisms about Babar Azam since 2023. Pakistan was eliminated from the ODI World Cup in India while he was captain. Shaheen Afridi took over as the T20I captain after him, however he was given the captaincy back prior to the T20 World Cup. Not that he experienced success at the main event, as Pakistan was eliminated from the competition during the group phase.
“I will not take names, but four coaches said that a group of players is cancer to the team. If they are part of the squad, Pakistan can’t win. I tried to remove them from the team, but the team management recalled them,” he concluded.
