The Nepal national cricket team has recently concluded a significant training camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, India, as part of their preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle. This two-week training camp, supported by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was crucial for the team’s preparation ahead of their next series against Oman and Canada in September.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) expressed its gratitude to the BCCI, particularly its Secretary Jay Shah, for facilitating this opportunity. This camp is part of a broader effort by Nepal to strengthen their cricketing ties with India, which could open doors to future tours and collaborative growth opportunities in the sport.
During their time at the NCA, the Nepali team, affectionately known as the “Rhinos,” focused on sharpening their skills and strategies. The facilities at the NCA provided them with an environment conducive to intensive training, which is expected to boost their performance in the League 2 matches.
Notable players like captain Rohit Paudel, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Sandeep Lamichhane, who had recently participated in Canada’s Global T20 league, played pivotal roles during the camp. This preparation is critical as Nepal aims to finish in the top four of the League 2 standings by December 2026 to secure a direct spot in the CWC Qualifier. Failure to do so would mean competing in the CWC Qualifier Play-off, where only the top four teams advance.
This training camp follows Nepal’s previous cricketing engagements in India, including preparatory matches against Gujarat and Baroda earlier this year. The camp represents a strategic step for Nepal as they continue to build momentum and improve their international standings.
