An injury kept Nitish Kumar Reddy out of India’s T20I trip to Zimbabwe, thus he will have to wait for his debut on the international scene. In the team of fifteen, Shivam Dube will replace him.
Reddy has been ruled out because of a hernia, despite the BCCI not disclosing the specifics of his injury.
After an incredible IPL 2024 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, 21-year-old seam bowling all-rounder Reddy won his first call-up to the Indian team. During the season, he amassed 303 runs at a strike rate of 142.92 and took 3 wickets in 13.1 overs.
He hit 64 off 37 balls against Punjab Kings in just his second innings of the season, helping SRH reach 182 and win by two runs. Later in the competition, in a group match against Rajasthan Royals, Reddy also struck an undefeated 76 off 42 balls. Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs, and Jitesh Sharma were among the three players he removed with the ball.
Reddy is among the young players the BCCI has targeted and who have spent the last year being monitored by the NCA.
Dube will compete for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Even though he has only amassed 106 runs in six games with a strike rate of 107.07 and zero wickets thus far in the tournament, he had an incredible IPL 2024. He was the spin-hitter for the Chennai Super Kings, coming in to bat mostly in the middle overs. He ended the season with 396 runs in 14 games at an average of 162.29. His run total was second only to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s for CSK.
India will begin play Zimbabwe in five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) at Harare on July 6. Shubman Gill will captain the team, which includes debutants Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande, while the older players are rested.
