After submitting a BBL nomination, Shamar Joseph may revisit the location of his spectacular Test cricket debut, and India captain Harmanpreet Kaur is one of the first players to be confirmed for the WBBL draft.
After submissions ended in advance of the September 1 drafts, the first batches of 10 names for the BBL and WBBL were made public on Monday. One of them, Lockie Ferguson, a speedy player from New Zealand, chose not to sign a central contract. He may play in the competition alongside Finn Allen following the confirmation of his signing with the Perth Scorchers.
Heather Knight, the captain of England, and Sophie Ecclestone, the top-ranked bowler in both ODIs and T20Is, are the other nominees. However, because of a tour of South Africa starting in late November, it seems unlikely that England players will be available for the full competition.
Although 14 of the 20 players on the nominations list are eligible for their teams to retain them, they also attest that they have not been signed under the pre-draft process. Among them is Laura Wolvaardt, the captain of South Africa, who has won back-to-back championships with the Adelaide Strikers. Melbourne Renegades may also be able to keep Harmanpreet. Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma from India are also included in the draft.v
Other noteworthy prospects for retention are Alice Capsey of the Melbourne Stars, Jamie Overton of the Adelaide Strikers, Alex Hales of the Sydney Thunder, James Vince of the Sydney Sixers, and Shabnim Ismail of the Hobart Hurricanes. Despite withdrawing from the WBBL season prior, Danni Wyatt is still eligible to be retained by the Perth Scorchers because she was initially signed in the draft.
Once more, availability will be a crucial factor in the BBL. January 16 marks the commencement of the West Indies’ Test series against Pakistan. Following his valiant Gabba performance, Joseph declared he would be available for Test matches at all times. Around the time the BBL begins, they also play white-ball internationals against Bangladesh, albeit the selection process might be more lax in those contests. Hales, Vince, and Overton are a few of the people with deals in the ILT20, which begins on January 11.
Clubs are required to choose at least two players from each of the four categories in which players are draughted: Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze. Pre-draft agreement signers are given a pick that corresponds to their pay band. It is anticipated that the pre-draft signings’ holes will be filled in the next few days.
The BBL runs from December 15 to January 27 and the WBBL from October 27 to December 1.
