[Saba Sports News] AB de Villiers, the Proteas icon, has become part of the coaching team for the Titans Cricket Black African Batting Camp, as announced by the Centurion-based franchise. Launched in the winter of 2023, this initiative aims to expedite the development of talented black African batters. The involvement of de Villiers is expected to significantly boost the players’ advancement.
The camp’s inaugural session saw five promising batters receiving guidance from the Momentum Multiply Titans’ coaching team over a span of three days, with Sibonelo Makhanya, the white ball captain, also engaging with the participants in a net session.
Titans Cricket CEO Dr. Jacques Faul emphasized the value of having a figure like AB de Villiers contribute to the camp, highlighting the positive impact it will have on accelerating the young players’ development and careers. He noted the success of the first camp but also the importance of identifying areas for enhancement, expressing enthusiasm for the potential influence de Villiers will have on the upcoming talents.
For the 2024 edition of the camp, the number of participants has been expanded beyond the initial five, indicating growth and increased opportunities for young batters to benefit from this program during the winter.
