[Saba Sports News] Hardik Pandya’s appointment as Mumbai Indians’ new captain has taken many fans by surprise. AB de Villiers, the renowned former South African cricketer, however, offers a different perspective. He observes that the captaincy change has elicited mixed reactions, with some welcoming it while others are upset, as evidenced by MI losing a million followers. De Villiers believes that this shift is not detrimental to MI.
In a video on his YouTube channel, de Villiers said, “People have varied feelings about Hardik replacing Rohit, but I think it’s not a negative for MI.”
De Villiers recognizes Rohit Sharma’s impressive leadership at MI but sees potential benefits in the change, suggesting it might relieve Rohit’s burden as India’s captain. “Rohit’s been great for MI, but as the Indian captain, it’s time for him to relax and enjoy the game without the IPL’s pressure,” he commented.
He also suggests that Sharma’s decision might be strategic, focusing more on his batting. De Villiers encourages MI fans to embrace this change positively. “I believe Rohit wants to concentrate more on his batting. Let’s accept Hardik as MI’s new captain,” he added.
Expressing his wishes for the team’s future, de Villiers hopes for game time for Dewald Brevis and suggests team composition strategies. “It would be fantastic to see Brevis open with Rohit. MI might need some fast bowlers and perhaps a spinner,” he noted.
De Villiers also touches on the loyalty of players like Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah to MI, contrasting it with Pandya’s journey. “Surya and Bumrah have been loyal, but Hardik’s return should be welcomed. I hope he lifts the IPL trophy with MI again,” he stated, urging fans to give Pandya a fair chance in his new role.
