[Saba Sports News] In a team full of assets and diverse bowlers, one might assume that an additional bowler would be inconsequential. However, cricketers like Mitchell Marsh, with their exceptional prowess and skill, serve as invaluable backups.
Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, recently expressed optimism about Marsh’s return as a bowler ahead of their third T20 World Cup match against Namibia.
While McDonald admitted that Marsh bowling against Namibia was unlikely, he suggested the chances would increase for the final group-stage game against Scotland. Assuming Australia advances to the Super 8, McDonald indicated that they would strategize on how best to utilize Marsh’s bowling in the later stages of the tournament.
“Very hopeful that he’ll be back ready to bowl in matches. I’d say the likelihood of that against Namibia is very slim, potentially increasing into Scotland, and then I think you should have a clear run at the Super 8s and be able to bowl there,” stated McDonald in the pre-match press conference.
Although Marsh has been used sparingly in the 56 T20Is since his debut in October 2011, bowling in only 25 innings and taking 17 wickets, his commendable economy rate of 7.74 stands out. Bowling an over or two against Namibia and Scotland could significantly boost Marsh’s confidence going into the crucial stages of the tournament, where his bowling might be needed.
