[Saba Sports News] Pakistan cricket legend Shoaib Akhtar and current white-ball team captain Babar Azam couldn’t contain their excitement on Thursday after Arshad Nadeem made history at the Paris Olympics.
Nadeem set a new record with a 92.97m javelin throw, becoming Pakistan’s first Olympic medalist since 1992.
Nadeem brought the competition to life with his 92.97m throw on his second attempt, breaking the Olympic record of 90.57m set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen in 2008—not once, but twice.
India’s Neeraj Chopra couldn’t keep up, managing a best throw of 89.45m. Nadeem closed the night with a massive 91.79m throw on his final attempt.
After the gold medal win, Akhtar shared a video on social media, praising Nadeem as a “son of a lion.”
He said, “Out of nowhere, this son of a lion has won Pakistan a gold medal. Arshad, you achieved this with your own hard work and talent. Congratulations to you and the whole of Pakistan. One gold medal has completely changed the nation’s mood, and now Pakistan is trending worldwide because of Arshad.”
