[Saba Sports News] Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin achieved the remarkable feat of reaching 500 Test wickets, but had to leave the Rajkot Test against England mid-match due to a family emergency.
Despite this, he made a significant return on the fourth day, contributing with a wicket in his six-over spell, while conceding only 19 runs. This milestone prompted a touching tribute from his wife, Prithi, on Instagram, reflecting on the journey to his 500th wicket and the personal challenges faced along the way.
Prithi’s post celebrated the achievement and the resilience shown by Ashwin, expressing immense pride in his accomplishment. She recounted the anticipation leading up to the milestone and the emotional rollercoaster that followed, highlighting the significance of family support in their lives.
“We chased the 500 at Hyderabad; it didn’t happen. At Vizag, it didn’t happen. So I just bought a ton of sweets and gave it to everyone at home at 499. 500 came and went quietly. Till it didn’t. A lot happened between 500 and 501. Longest 48 hours of our lives,” Ashwin’s wife posted on Instagram. “But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that. What a phenomenal achievement. What a phenomenal guy. I am insanely proud of you Ravi Ashwin. We love you!” she added.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma also spoke about Ashwin’s situation, emphasizing the priority of family and expressing understanding for Ashwin’s decision to be with his loved ones during a challenging time. Sharma praised Ashwin’s character and the difficult choices he made, underlining the team’s support for him during this period.
