[Saba Sports News] Australia and England will clash in a one-off Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2027 to celebrate 150 years of Test cricket. The historic MCG, where the first-ever Test was played in 1877, also hosted the centenary Test in 1977, won by Australia.
Cricket Australia and state governments have confirmed that the annual Boxing Day Test at the MCG and the New Year’s Test at the SCG are locked in until the 2030-31 season.
In a significant update, Perth will host the opening Test of the summer for the next three years, marking the first time in over four decades that the Ashes won’t start at the Gabba in Brisbane.
The Adelaide Oval is set to host the December Christmas Test for the next seven years, with a mix of day and day-night formats. Although the 2025-26 Ashes Test in Adelaide is scheduled as a day game, the venue has recently hosted pink-ball Tests.
“We’re thrilled to secure long-term hosting rights, ensuring top-tier cricket at the best venues across the country for the next seven years,” said CA CEO Nick Hockley.
“The 150th anniversary Test at the MCG in March 2027 will be a magnificent celebration of the sport at one of the world’s iconic arenas, and we eagerly anticipate hosting England for this momentous occasion.”
