[Saba Sports News] The Australian Government and Cricket Australia will kick off the countdown to the 2024-25 season with an event in Chennai on May 25. With six months until the Men’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series, the focus will be on the upcoming tours of Australia’s Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams. The evening will bring together leaders from industry, business, and government, along with cricket legends, to celebrate the Australia-India relationship.
Australian High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, highlighted opportunities for Indian business leaders, stating, “The Border-Gavaskar trophy series promises to be the highlight of this summer’s cricket calendar. I encourage Indian business leaders to travel to Australia for the big games, develop new connections with Australian corporates, and experience all Australia has to offer.”
The event will celebrate the long-standing cricket ties between Australia and India and showcase opportunities to witness top cricket teams compete. CAIR and Cricket Australia will offer a tailored business program to facilitate connections between Australian and Indian industry and government networks through various events, conferences, gala functions, and business matching programs during the series in Australia.
Adam Gilchrist, former Australian Test captain and CAIR Advisory Board Director, said, “We are delighted to design a Summer of Cricket program with Cricket Australia that will help cricket be a binding force for our two nations across community, business, entertainment, and tourism. We can expect many not-to-be-missed moments Downunder this Summer.” Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley added, “Cricket brings people together, and with support from the Australian Government and the Centre for Australia-India Relations, it’s wonderful to engage with leaders across business and government at this exciting time. The anticipation for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy and women’s ODI series is enormous. We look forward to welcoming India fans to stadiums across Australia this summer.”
In partnership with Qantas, Penfolds, and Star Sports, the event will showcase the best of Australian food and wine and unique travel experiences. Qantas announced increased flights from Bengaluru to Sydney, adding over 12,000 seats between December 2024 and March 2025 to meet peak season demand. The event will also promote premium travel packages and experiences offered by the Cricket Australia Travel Office before tickets go on sale on June 14.
