In Twenty20 Internationals, Adil Rashid of England has
risen to the top of the bowling rankings, while in the men’s ODI rankings,
Pakistani batsman Babar Azam has dethroned India opener Shubman Gill.
After picking up seven wickets in the opening four
Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in England’s current series in the West Indies,
Rashid passed two other legspinners, Rashid Khan of Afghanistan (ranked No. 2)
and Ravi Bishnoi of India (ranked No. 3). He is just the second player from
England to top the ICC men’s T20I bowling rankings, following offspinner Graeme
Swann, who achieved this feat more than ten years earlier. Rashid’s ascent to
the top occurred one day after the IPL 2024 auction saw him go unsold.
After hitting fifty and a hundred in the second and
third Twenty20 Internationals in South Africa, India’s Suryakumar Yadav is
still the top-ranked batsman in the format. He now has a 100 rating point
advantage over Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan, who is in second position.
Since Gill was rested from India’s current series in
South Africa, Babar has surpassed Gill to take the top spot in ODIs, despite
the fact that neither batsman has participated in an ODI since the 2023 World
Cup concluded.
Following Australia’s victory over Pakistan in Perth,
Usman Khawaja climbs three spots to fourth in the Test rankings, but Kane
Williamson stays at the top. Khawaja will have another chance to bridge the gap
on Boxing Day when he plays Australia.
Pat Cummins has moved up a spot to third in the Test
bowling rankings, while Nathan Lyon has risen to fifth, Mitchell Starc to
eighth, and Josh Hazlewood tenth. India offspinner R Ashwin remains the No. 1
ranked bowler in Tests.
