[Saba Sports News] The Delhi Premier League T20 officially kicked off its inaugural edition with a dazzling opening ceremony at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, August 17. Rohan Jaitley, President of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), declared the league open in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The star-studded event featured electrifying performances by music sensation Badshah and Bollywood star Sonam Bajwa, who kept the audience entertained. The gala was graced by DDCA’s top management, franchise team owners, players, and staff from all participating men’s and women’s teams.
Rohan Jaitley expressed pride in launching the Delhi Premier League, calling it a historic moment for DDCA and the capital. He highlighted the league’s role in providing a crucial platform for Delhi’s cricket talent and its potential to unite the community. He extended best wishes to all players and anticipated an exciting season ahead.
A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of Delhi cricketers Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli for their contributions to India’s recent ICC T20 World Cup win. Pant, who will play for Purani Dilli 6 in the league, accepted the honor in person, while Kohli’s brother represented him.
Following the ceremony, Purani Dilli 6 and South Delhi Superstarz are set to clash in the league opener. Cricket stars such as Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Ayush Badoni, and Lalit Yadav will be in action as the league unfolds.
Running from August 17 to September 8, 2024, the Delhi Premier League T20 will feature 40 matches—33 men’s and 7 women’s—over 23 days of thrilling cricket.
