Ahead of the T20
World Cup in May, Bangladesh will embark on a three-match T20I series trip of
the USA. The series will be used by the two teams, who have never faced off in
a Twenty20 International, to get ready for the main event that the USA and the
West Indies will co-host.
A five-match T20I series between the USA and Canada is scheduled for April.
Houston, Texas’s Prairie View Cricket Complex will serve as the host site for
every game.
With the first two
matches of the campaign, against South Africa and Sri Lanka, slated for Dallas
and New York, respectively, Bangladesh has played two Twenty20 Internationals
(T20Is) in the USA in their history, both against the West Indies. A series prior
to the tournament will help them adjust to the conditions.
“For the Bangladesh Team, this tour serves as an ideal platform to
acclimatise to the conditions ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,”
Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, CEO, Bangladesh Cricket Board, said. “We recognise
the significance of this preparatory phase and are committed to making the most
of this invaluable experience.”
After an uneventful
ODI World Cup, Bangladesh, who were eliminated in the group stages of the
previous T20 World Cup, would be hoping to perform better.
The USA and Canada, who will be competing in the competition for the first
time, will get things off on June 2 in Dallas. The USA’s five Twenty20
international matches over the past two years have all taken place in July 2022
during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. Canada only participated in one
Twenty20 international match last year, which was the Americas Region Final of
the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which they won to advance to the World Cup.
“Ahead of the important Men’s T20 World Cup, these games will be vital for
our team to get their working combinations, build team cohesion, and fine-tune
strategies,” said Mr. Venu Pisike, Chairman of USA Cricket.
Canada and USA are
part of Group A – along with India, Ireland, and Pakistan – in the T20 World
Cup. Bangladesh are part of group D, and will play against Nepal and
Netherlands in Kingstown in the West Indies.
