[Saba Sports News] Left-arm Indian bowler Barinder Sran has announced his retirement from both international and domestic cricket at the age of 31. The Punjab-born cricketer’s journey began in village cricket and led him to represent India on the international stage.
Sran’s unconventional path to cricket success started when he responded to a Kings XI Punjab advertisement for young talent. Although he didn’t secure an IPL contract initially, he played tennis ball cricket in his village and eventually became one of Punjab’s top uncapped players. His perseverance paid off when Rajasthan Royals picked him up in the 2015 IPL auction.
Reflecting on his career, Sran shared on Instagram, “As I officially hang up my cricket boots, I look back at my journey with a heart full of gratitude. Cricket has gifted me innumerable and incredible experiences. Fast bowling soon became my lucky charm and opened doors to represent prestigious IPL franchises, ultimately culminating in the highest honor of representing India in 2016.”
In 2016, Sran made his ODI debut under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in Perth, just eight List-A matches into his career. He went on to play six ODIs and two T20Is for India, with his standout performance coming in a T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare, where he took four wickets for just 10 runs, earning the Player of the Match award.
“Even though my international career was brief, the memories created will be forever cherished. I am eternally grateful to the almighty for bringing the right coaches and management into my life, who supported me throughout my journey,” he added.
