[Saba Sports News] BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stepped down as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in mid-2024, after receiving a contract extension in January. His resignation paves the way for his bid for the ICC Chairman’s position, with the nomination set to be filed on August 7.
The ICC Chairman election is scheduled for December 1, and speculation is rife about who will replace Shah as BCCI Secretary. Among the leading candidates are Rajeev Shukla, Ashish Shelar, and Arun Dhumal. Shah is reportedly supported by 15 of 16 ICC members for the chairmanship but has 96 hours to decide on his next move, with a year left in his BCCI term.
Rajeev Shukla, currently BCCI vice-president and a Rajya Sabha MP for the Congress party, is a strong contender, having previously chaired the IPL. Ashish Shelar, BCCI Treasurer and a key figure in the Mumbai Cricket Association, faces challenges due to his other high-profile commitments. Arun Dhumal, IPL chairman and former BCCI Treasurer, is another likely candidate given his ongoing involvement with the IPL.
