[Saba Sports News] English football legend Wayne
Rooney, who announced his coaching role with the English Championship team
Birmingham this summer, has achieved his first victory since taking charge.
However, amidst the moment of celebration for Birmingham, an unfortunate
incident took place in the stands. According to reports from English media, two
fans in the Birmingham stands were heard shouting derogatory slogans directed
at female referee Rebecca, who was officiating the match. They sang songs
containing misogynistic content towards Rebecca. Consequently, the West
Midlands County police arrested the two fans on suspicion of breaching public
order, and they are currently in custody. Rebecca, a respected figure in the
refereeing community, began her refereeing career in 2010 and has frequently
officiated in women’s Premier League matches. Her exceptional performance led
to her becoming the first female EFL referee in January of this year. The editor
believes that any form of discrimination towards others should be unequivocally
condemned, and efforts should be made to prevent similar incidents from
occurring in the future. Those who report such cases should be acknowledged and
rewarded.
