[Saba Sports News] Jeremy Clarkson, the renowned
host of the car show “Top Gear,” expressed his views in a column for
The Sun regarding the ease of driving modern Formula 1 cars. He commented on
Carlos Sainz’s impressive comeback after undergoing surgery, stating that it
highlighted the perception that today’s F1 cars are too easy to handle. Sainz,
a Ferrari driver, flew to Australia shortly after having an appendectomy, and
despite the challenging circumstances, he won the race, which was widely
regarded as a display of determination and courage. Clarkson admitted that his
perception of F1 cars was contrary to this, as he had always been told that
these cars were incredibly demanding to control, requiring superhuman
abilities. However, recent data reveals that Sainz is the second driver in the
past 18 months to suffer from appendicitis. Alexander Albon, a Williams driver,
also missed the 2022 Italian Monza Grand Prix due to appendectomy surgery. He
faced complications such as respiratory failure and returned to competition
three weeks later in Singapore. Fans have pointed out that F1 drivers
experience significant gravitational forces, reaching 5 or 6 G’s, during
braking and cornering, which can exert pressure on their internal organs.
Returning to racing immediately after surgery poses the risk of internal
bleeding. It is considered remarkable that Sainz was able to safely complete
the event and emerge victorious. Even British celebrity Jeremy Clarkson expressed
his surprise and lamented the perception that F1 cars are too easy to drive.
