[Saba Sports News] The upcoming 2024 F1 Australian Grand Prix, scheduled for March 24, will witness the introduction of the C5 tires for the first time this season. Pirelli, the exclusive tire supplier for Formula 1, has released the tire compound selection for the Australian Grand Prix, which includes the C3, C4, and C5 tires. In Formula 1, dry tires are categorized into five different compounds, labeled from C1 to C5. The higher the compound number, the softer the tire, offering better grip and lower required operating temperatures but faster wear. Last year’s tire selection for the Australian Grand Prix consisted of C2, C3, and C4 tires, with C2 being the primary tire used. In the previous race, 10 drivers utilized the C2 tires for 47 out of the 58 laps. However, for this year’s event, the track layout at Albert Park has been modified. The updated circuit now features a total of 14 corners, resulting in a smoother track surface and potentially reducing the difficulty of overtaking to some extent. The introduction of the C5 super-soft tires could potentially bring about some exciting changes to the race dynamics. Based on historical data, excluding any red flag interruptions, a one-stop strategy is likely to be the dominant approach for most teams. Some fans have noted that the Albert Park track itself does not impose high demands on tires. However, as Australia transitions into autumn, fluctuations in temperature and precipitation may become factors that affect the performance and rankings of the drivers.
