[Saba Sports News] Western Australia all-rounder Hilton Cartwright made headlines during a Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania when he had to abruptly leave the field midway through his innings.
The 32-year-old, who was unbeaten on 52, left the WACA ground at the tea break on Day 2 to be by his wife’s side for the birth of their second child.
Cartwright returned to the match after the safe arrival of his baby on Tuesday, October 22, and was able to resume his innings after the dismissal of Cooper Connolly. Speaking about the situation, he revealed that his wife, Tameka, had experienced some complications.
“My wife Tameka was 37 weeks pregnant, so the birth wasn’t expected to affect this match,” Cartwright told Fox Cricket. “However, over the weekend, she experienced complications, and after a call from the obstetrician on the morning of the game, it was recommended she be induced for the safety of both her and the baby.”
Cartwright explained that Tasmania was informed of the situation, and he had a plan in place with the coaches and captain Sam Whiteman to leave at the tea break, hoping to return later in the innings.
