[Saba Sports News] The Boston Celtics seem to be drawing inspiration from the Chicago Bulls by embarking on a documentary project reminiscent of “The Last Dance.” This acclaimed series, released by ESPN and Netflix during the COVID-19 pandemic, offered an in-depth look at the Bulls’ dynasty and Michael Jordan’s final season with the team in 1997-98, featuring unseen footage and interviews with Jordan and his teammates.
Celtics majority owner Wyc Grousbeck shared on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” that the Celtics are currently working on their own docuseries. This project involves camera crews following the team throughout the season and exploring archival footage to create a unique series that hopes to parallel the success and impact of “The Last Dance.”
While details about the production company and the platform for its release remain under wraps, Grousbeck expressed optimism about the documentary’s quality and its progress. He indicated that the series would be released shortly after the season concludes, regardless of the team’s performance.
This initiative by the Celtics is part of a broader trend, as the Boston Red Sox are also the subject of a season-long docuseries and an upcoming documentary focusing on their 2004 World Series victory and other championships.
