[Saba Sports News] Will Pucovski has a history of concussions, with the latest occurring on March 3, during a match between Victoria and Tasmania when he attempted to evade a bouncer from Riley Meredith. Since then, he has been sidelined from action. While Pucovski was included in Victoria’s contract for the 2024-25 season, his participation hinges on medical evaluations.
Cricket Australia (CA) has requested Cricket Victoria (CV) to include Pucovski in their squad, pending confirmation from medical reports from CA, CV, and independent medical experts. Due to his recurrent concussion issues, Pucovski has not been a consistent presence in the Australian team, last appearing in a Test match against India during the 2020/21 Border Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney.
Victoria’s General Manager of Cricket Performance, Graham Manou, emphasized that Pucovski’s situation will be reviewed by a panel comprising medical experts from all concerned parties. Manou affirmed that CV and CA are collaborating closely on the matter and expect to reach a decision promptly. If Pucovski is unable to participate due to concussion, he will receive compensation for his injuries.
“Understandably there will be a lot of interest in Will Pucovski and what the future holds. The most important part of this process is Will, and his health and wellbeing. Cricket Victoria is working closely with Cricket Australia and the expert medical panel that is due to meet soon to review Will’s history. We’ll take the advice from that panel on the appropriate way forward this season,” said Manou
Manou highlighted the importance of Pucovski’s health and well-being in the decision-making process. In a recent interview, Pucovski shared insights into his prolonged battle with concussion symptoms, dating back to his teenage years. Despite his struggles, Pucovski expressed confidence in his long-term health but admitted to grappling more with mental health concerns.
The Australian batter disclosed that mental health poses a greater challenge for him than concussions. He expressed a desire to share his full story in the future, believing it would provide clarity to those close to him. Pucovski concluded by expressing optimism about overcoming his challenges and focusing on his overall well-being.
