[Saba Sports News] An Ainge might soon helm an NBA Eastern Conference team once more. Marc Stein, a seasoned NBA journalist, has highlighted Austin Ainge, son of renowned NBA executive Danny Ainge, as a potential candidate for the Charlotte Hornets’ general manager vacancy. At 42, Austin presently holds the position of assistant general manager with the Boston Celtics, where Brad Stevens is in charge.
Austin embarked on his Celtics journey as the director of player personnel in 2011, during his father Danny’s tenure as the team’s president of basketball operations. Despite Danny Ainge’s departure in 2021 to join the Utah Jazz’s executive ranks, Austin has remained with the Celtics. His prior experience includes roles as an assistant coach at Southern Utah University and a head coach in the NBA’s Development League.
The Hornets are on the hunt for a new general manager following Mitch Kupchak’s recent departure. While a seasoned NBA GM currently seems to be leading the race for the job in Charlotte, Austin is also emerging as a noteworthy contender for the position.
