Rahul Dravid, the head coach of India, is supposedly
in negotiations with the Lucknow Super Giants, an IPL team. Before the 2024
Indian Premier League, Dravid may take on the role of mentor for LSG. However,
everything hinges on how Dravid and the BCCI work out. With the conclusion of
the ODI World Cup, the former captain of India’s tenure as head coach of Team
India has officially come to an end. Following the T20 World Cup in 2021, he
was named the men’s team head coach, a position he held for two years until the
World Cup this year. Subsequently, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and current
secretary Jay Shah were instrumental in persuading Dravid to assume the
position following the conclusion of Ravi Shastri’s term.
India did not win an ICC trophy under Dravid, although
they excelled in bilateral matches. They are the top-ranked team in each of the
three forms right now. They had won ten straight World Cup games, but in the
top match against Australia, they were unable to overcome the last obstacle.
Dainik Jagran claims that although Dravid is unlikely
to ask for an extension, BCCI will probably meet with him to find out his
future plans. Because of his hectic schedule and many travels, he will not be
able to continue serving as India’s head coach and his desire to spend time
with his family.
An affiliation with an IPL franchise is helpful in
this situation. Only two months are allotted to the IPL. This gives Dravid
plenty time to spend with his family and maintain his coaching ties.
Dravid was always wanted by LSG to be a member of
their support staff, but his connection to Team India intervened. India will
probably make a deal with “The Wall” if Dravid decides to step down
as their head coach.
In any case, LSG no longer has a mentor because Gautam
Gambhir joined the Kolkata Knight Riders. During the previous two years,
Gambhir served as LSG’s mentor and was instrumental in developing the team.
The Jagran report adds that Dravid is also in talks
with Rajasthan Royals, the franchise he represented for many years as a player
and also as captain. He was their mentor too.
But as things stand now, LSG appear to be the
frontrunners to appoint Dravid as their mentor
