For their multi-format home series against Australia Under-19 in September and October, all-around player Samit Dravid has been called up to the Indian Under-19 squad for the first time.
Soham Patwardhan of Madhya Pradesh will captain the side for the four-day matches, while Mohamed Amaan, an Uttar Pradesh middle-order batsman, has been selected skipper of the 50-over squad.
Son of former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid, Dravid recently competed in his first senior men’s Twenty20 event, the Maharaja T20 Trophy, with the Mysuru Warriors team in Karnataka.
Despite not being asked to bowl at his medium pace, Dravid amassed 82 runs at a strike rate of 114 in seven innings while batting in the middle order. Mysuru Warriors were scheduled to play in the competition semi-final on the day the junior selectors revealed the selection of India’s Under-19 team.
Dravid, 18, was a key player in Karnataka’s victory earlier this year in the Cooch Behar Trophy, a four-day cricket competition for under-19 players. In eight games, he amassed 362 runs and 16 wickets, including two against Mumbai in the championship.
India Under-19 will play three 50-over games against Australia Under-19 in Puducherry on September 21, 23 and 26, followed by two four-day games in Chennai starting on September 30 and October 7.
