[Saba Sports News] Star India batter Jemimah Rodrigues had her three-year honorary membership at Mumbai’s Khar Gymkhana revoked after her father, Ivan Rodrigues, was reportedly involved in “religious activities” on the club’s premises.
According to reports, the Gymkhana officials took action after members raised concerns over his activities, which were seen as attempts to “convert the vulnerable.”
Jemimah’s membership was officially canceled following a general meeting on October 20, 2024.
Ivan Rodrigues, a cricket coach, had been using the club’s presidential hall for over a year to host 35 events as part of an organization called Brother Manuel Ministries, which some members described as religious gatherings.
Gymkhana officials cited the club’s bye-laws prohibiting religious activities as the reason for the cancellation.
Former Gymkhana president Nitin Gadekar explained that they discovered the events after being informed by a staff member, noting elements such as trance music and references to religious salvation.
After protesting, the decision to revoke Jemimah’s membership was made.
Jemimah, a key player for India, has represented the national team in 3 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 104 T20Is, and was recently part of India’s T20 World Cup campaign.
