According to British media reports, Everton is hoping that Tottenham Hotspur
would waive the £10 million fluctuating transfer fee for Dele Alli. In a
41-page ruling published by the English Premier League’s independent panel last
Friday, Everton claimed that Tottenham took advantage of their financial issues
and engaged in “hard bargaining” in the transfer market. In the end,
Tottenham paid £60 million for Richarlison in June 2022, £20 million less than
Everton’s valuation, making it difficult for the club to pass the Profit and
Sustainability Regulations (PSR). However, Tottenham is greatly displeased with
this claim and is unlikely to relent on Alli’s transfer fee.
The current contract stipulates that if Alli makes
seven more appearances, Everton must pay Tottenham £10 million. However, due to
financial issues, Everton is currently finding it challenging to afford this
fee. Tottenham has made it clear that any renegotiated solution must be
beneficial to both parties, and it seems less likely now that there will be any
modifications to the contract.
