Sports News] Following an appeal by Everton, the independent committee has
concluded that the club’s penalty points for breaching financial rules will be
reduced from 10 points to 6 points. On November 17, 2023, the Premier League
announced that Everton Football Club had violated the Profitability and
Sustainability Rules (PSR) and imposed an immediate deduction of 10 points,
which was the largest penalty in Premier League history. The committee
determined that Everton had incurred a loss of £124.5 million during the PSR
calculation period, surpassing the allowed threshold of £105 million. As a
result, Everton received a 10-point deduction. Prior to the reduction, Everton
had recorded 8 wins, 7 draws, 11 losses, and 21 points in the Premier League,
placing them 17th in the table. With the 4-point reduction, Everton’s total
points increased to 25, elevating them to 15th position in the Premier League.
They are currently 5 points above the relegation zone with one more game
played.
