The announcement of the Indian cricket team for the 2024 T20 World Cup happened a few days ago. Surprisingly, since being selected for the major event, the majority of the players on the roster have not been playing well. This also applies to vice captain Hardik Pandya and captain Rohit Sharma of India. Their IPL 2024 squad, the Mumbai Indians, fell to the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, putting them in danger of elimination. As MI failed to chase down 170, impact substitute Rohit Sharma scored just 11.
Pandya wasn’t much better in that aspect either; despite taking two wickets, he was removed for only one run after giving up 44 runs in four overs. This was Rohit Sharma’s fourth straight poor score in the IPL 2024. In the last three games, he has scored six against RR, eight against DC, and four against LSG.
Aakash Chopra, a former player for KKR and India, brought up the matter in a video.
“Whoever has been named in the T20 World Cup squad, Yashasvi Jaiswal is the only exception, nobody is doing anything. I know Jasprit Bumrah picked three wickets vs KKR, Suryakumar Yadav also made runs (56) , okay fine. You get the drift right. Rohit is our captain, he gets out. For the fourth consecutive time, he failed. Rajasthan, Delhi, Lucknow and now Kolkata. Four consecutive innings where he has not scored runs,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“Then Hardik Pandya comes to bat at No. 7, Tim David at No. 8. Why? Is it about left-right combination. If there is no left-right combination, will you stop batting or what?”
India’s World Cup campaign will go off on June 5, 2024, at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York against Ireland. Then, on June 9, 2024, the team will play their World Cup match against Pakistan at the same stadium. India will next play on June 12 in the USA and on June 15 in Canada.
