[Saba Sports News] India is set to face New Zealand in a three-match Test series, beginning October 16 in Bengaluru. After a dominant 2-0 home series win against Bangladesh, India carries strong momentum into this high-stakes series, which is crucial for their standing in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC).
Ahead of this important series, head coach Gautam Gambhir discussed the team’s approach to Test cricket.
Recalling the recent Bangladesh series, where India played aggressively in Chennai and Kanpur, Gambhir highlighted the team’s adaptability.
“We want to be a team that can score 400 in a day and can bat for two days. That’s what growth and adaptability in Test cricket mean,” he stated. “If you play the same way every time, it’s not growth. We have players in the dressing room who can bat for two days if a draw is needed.”
Gambhir further emphasized the team’s commitment to an aggressive, natural style of play. He noted that while global cricket trends might vary, India remains focused on its own strategy.
“I can’t speak for world cricket because every team has its own ideology,” he explained.
“For us, we have players who can score 400 in a day and others who can bat two days to save a match. We want to play cricket our way. Here, we encourage players to be aggressive and to play their natural game.”
