[Saba Sports News] The GMR and JSW Groups, co-owners of the Delhi Capitals IPL franchise, issued a joint statement on Thursday confirming updates on the team’s management.
As reported earlier, the statement outlined new leadership roles, including changes involving Sourav Ganguly.
Ganguly, the former India captain, will continue his association with the franchise, but not directly with the Delhi Capitals IPL team. Instead, he will serve as the director of cricket for both the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 and the Delhi Capitals Women’s Premier League (WPL) team over the next two years.
This transition aligns with the JSW Group’s temporary shift from IPL operations as the GMR Group takes charge for the next two years.
Regarding the IPL auction, Ganguly will be present alongside JSW head Parth Jindal, though his influence in decision-making may be limited. Both groups will jointly make key decisions on auctions, captaincy, and player retention.
As for Rishabh Pant, currently on national duty, the GMR Group awaits his decision on whether he wishes to remain with the franchise. Optimism remains that he will continue, and his role as captain will be discussed once his retention is confirmed.
The statement highlighted a strategic two-year rotational arrangement where GMR will manage the IPL men’s team, while JSW oversees the WPL team. The roles will swap in 2027, with the Delhi Capitals management continuing to handle business operations across both groups.
