[Saba Sports News] Glen “Big Baby” Davis has been convicted of defrauding the NBA’s healthcare plan, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York. Davis, along with former NBA player Will Bynum and others, participated in a scheme to falsely claim reimbursements for medical treatments not received. This fraud involved several ex-NBA players, including Darius Miles, Shannon Brown, and Tony Allen.
Prosecutors identified Terrence Williams, a 2009 NBA Draft pick, as the scheme’s mastermind. They aimed to defraud the NBA’s Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan, successfully obtaining over $5 million illegally.
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams stated that the defendants’ fame did not shield them from prosecution for fraudulent activities. Despite Davis earning over $33.1 million in his career, his involvement in this fraud led to his conviction, underscoring that notoriety does not exempt anyone from legal consequences for engaging in fraud.
