[Saba Sports News] During the Metro Bank One-Day Cup match, Leicestershire Foxes triumphed over Sussex, largely due to a brilliant partnership between Peter Handscomb and Ajinkya Rahane. The Australian batter praised Rahane’s pivotal role in their match-winning stand.
Leicestershire, after a strong start, found themselves in a tricky position after losing quick wickets. Handscomb and Rahane then steadied the ship, helping their team to a formidable total of 363/7 in 50 overs. Handscomb scored an impactful 119 off 80 deliveries and credited Rahane for his composure during their 146-run partnership.
“Ajinkya kept me calm at the other end. We knew we could launch at the back end and scored over 100 runs together. It was beautiful to bat with him,” Handscomb told BBC Radio. Rahane’s experience provided the support that allowed Handscomb to play his natural, aggressive game.
Rahane contributed a valuable half-century, perfectly complementing Handscomb’s explosive innings. Both batters rotated the strike well and accelerated when needed. Despite a strong fight from Sussex, with Tom Haines scoring a magnificent hundred, Leicestershire’s total proved too much as they secured a 10-run victory.
Rahane’s consistent contributions, including an excellent fifty against Nottinghamshire and crucial runs against Essex, underline his value to the Leicestershire team. His latest knock of 68 against Sussex showcases his importance.
