[Saba Sports News] Before the India vs. Pakistan match in the 2023 World Cup, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya lauded Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, highlighting how Sharma has consistently supported and encouraged many players during his tenure. Pandya emphasized that under Sharma’s guidance, team members have been given the freedom to showcase their skills and express themselves on the field.
Rohit took over as India’s captain in November 2021, initially in the T20I format following Virat Kohli’s resignation. Subsequently, when Kohli stepped down from captaincy in all formats, Rohit was entrusted with leading India across formats. Pandya praised Rohit for backing numerous players and providing them with significant opportunities during his captaincy.
“I think since he has come, he has backed a lot of boys which I think we see the result now. The boys are going and kind of expressing themselves. Rohit has been special in giving them ample opportunities and at the same time telling them, ‘You know what, I’ve got your back,'” Pandya said in an ICC video.
Rohit Sharma is currently leading the Indian cricket team in the ICC World Cup 2023, where they have a perfect record, winning both of their matches. In their recent game against Afghanistan, Rohit’s century played a crucial role in India’s victory. Rohit aims to lead his team to victory in the ICC World Cup 2023, with home advantage.
Before the clash against Pakistan, Rohit Sharma downplayed the hype surrounding the match during a pre-match press conference, emphasizing that his team would approach it like any other game.
