[Saba Sports News] Harry Brook expressed regret over comments he made about Indian fans during the 2023 IPL. Despite a challenging debut season, Brook’s standout moment was a century for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kolkata Knight Riders. Post-match, he addressed social media critics, stating he was glad to “shut them up” after being doubted and criticized online.
“If you go on social media, people are calling you rubbish and you start to doubt yourself slightly,” he said. “I went out with an I-don’t-care mentality tonight and thankfully, it came off. “There’s a lot of Indian fans out there who would probably say well done tonight but they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad that I could shut them up, to be honest.”
Acknowledging the impact of social media on his mindset, Brook admitted he shouldn’t have made those remarks and described himself as an “idiot” for doing so. The experience led him to quit social media to avoid negativity, which he believes has improved his game and mental health.
“I was an idiot and I said that stupid thing in an interview which I regret a little bit,” he shared. “In India, you end up sitting in your hotel room, not much to do, so I find myself just scrolling Instagram or Twitter or whatever and come across stuff you just don’t want to see.”
He’s since appointed someone to manage his Instagram and Twitter accounts, focusing more on his performance and well-being. This decision followed after being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad and re-entering the IPL auction pool. Brook’s recent 71 off 72 in England’s ODI against the West Indies reflects his ongoing cricket journey.
