[Saba Sports News] Team India maintained their undefeated streak in the ODI World Cup 2023 as they handed a humiliating defeat to Sri Lanka on Thursday.
After losing the toss, India were asked to bat first. While, they lost their skipper Rohit Sharma early, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli put on a blockbuster show, forming 189-run partnership and also scored their individual half-centuries.
Shreyas Iyer showed his hitting prowess as his 56-ball 82 took India to 357/8 in 50 overs.
In the second innings, Indian pacers spitted fire, demolishing Sri Lankan batting line-up in a similar fashion like the Asia Cup 2023 final.
Jasprit Bumrah started the demolition job, dismissing Pathum Nissanka on the very first ball. Mohammed Siraj ran through the next three batters. Mohammad Shami claimed another five-wicket haul as India won by 302 runs.
With this mammoth victory, India moved to the top of the points table, having won seven consecutive games. Moreover, they became first side to officially qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament.
India still have two league matches left and they would aim to go to the knockouts undefeated. Their next fixture is against another top team South Africa on November 5 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
