[Saba Sports News] During the Miami Heat’s game against the Golden State Warriors, the Heat’s play-by-play announcer appeared to misinterpret the media notes, leading to an embarrassing moment. Heat commentator Eric Reid gained attention during Miami’s match against the Golden State Warriors for an error he made in the second quarter. Following a basket by Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins, Reid discussed Wiggins’ performance in the 2022 Finals against the Boston Celtics, wrongly stating it occurred in a losing effort.
Reid stated, “Andrew Wiggins, a guy who averaged 18 points and nine rebounds a game in the 2022 NBA Finals, which they lost to the Celtics.” Moments later, Reid compounded his mistake by adding, “Two years ago, it was Boston in six to win it all.”
Of course, it was actually the Warriors who emerged victorious in six games over the Celtics that year. While Reid acknowledged his error on-air after halftime, it was a significant blunder to make, especially to reiterate it.
However, Reid, being one of the longest-tenured announcers in the sport, deserves some understanding. He has been with the Heat since their inception in 1988-89 and has served as their TV play-by-play announcer since 1991. Despite this misstep, it’s not the most egregious Celtics-related mistake witnessed this NBA season.
