[Saba Sports News] The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed the legendary Pakistan captain Sana Mir as the ambassador for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. The tournament is set to take place at the Tolerance Oval and Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi starting Thursday, April 25. With 226 international appearances for Pakistan, including 137 as captain, Mir will closely monitor the performances of the 10 teams participating in the tournament.
Mir anticipates fierce competition for the two spots in the final for the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh later this year. Excited about her role as ambassador, she looks forward to the competitive women’s cricket action as teams vie for advancement to the marquee event. “The tournament will provide excellent exposure to the Associate Member teams and their players,” Mir stated, emphasizing the increasing competitiveness in women’s cricket.
Drawing from her extensive experience in participating in numerous qualifying events for Pakistan, Mir aims to offer guidance to the teams on managing the pressure of such events. Reflecting on her journey, she fondly recalls her outstanding performance in the 2008 edition of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, where she earned the joint Player of the Series award with 70 runs and nine wickets. Mir’s goal is to engage with the teams and players during the Qualifier to help them succeed under pressure.
