[Saba Sports News] The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a $65 million budget for the Champions Trophy set for February and March 2025.
This budget includes provisions for alternative locations if necessary. Despite India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan due to geopolitical and security concerns, the ICC maintains Pakistan as the host nation.
During the last AGM meeting in Colombo, the issue was not discussed as expected. The Chief Executive Committee (CEC) confirmed that Pakistan will host the tournament, with significant funds allocated for upgrading facilities in Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Lahore.
A portion of the budget is reserved for potential matches outside Pakistan if needed.
“PCB has signed the Host Agreement and worked with management to draft an event budget, which was submitted to F&CA for approval. Management also approved an estimate of increased costs if some matches need to be played outside Pakistan,” read the CEC’s approval note.
A planning meeting and venue inspections in Pakistan took place in March 2024, with renovation work underway at all three venues.
According to reports, $35 million is allocated for infrastructure development, $20 million for participation and prize money, and $10 million for production.
The draft schedule for the tournament has also been designed. Pakistan will play New Zealand on the opening day, while India will face Bangladesh on February 20. The final will be played on March 9.
