[Saba Sports News] Tim David played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians’ impressive chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, contributing an unbeaten 42 runs off just 22 balls. Despite his efforts, Mumbai fell short by 31 runs, unable to reach Sunrisers Hyderabad’s imposing target of 278 runs.
However, Mumbai’s batsmen displayed resilience in reaching a respectable total, considering the monumental target set by Sunrisers Hyderabad, the highest in IPL history. Reflecting on the match, Tim David discussed the discussions in the dressing room after conceding 277 runs to Sunrisers.
“The talk in our dressing room is that we believe in our batting unit. We’ve chased down high scores before, sticking to our approach. It’s a process, and although we fell short, it was a great batting performance,” he remarked.
David also praised young talent Tilak Varma for his brilliant innings of 64 off 34 balls, which stabilized Mumbai’s chase after the early dismissals of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma. Varma’s aggressive batting, with six sixes and two fours, impressed David.
“Tilak (Varma) played beautifully. Hitting the ball cleanly is close to the best of what Tilak’s got. I still think he’s got more, and we saw a pretty special innings tonight. It’s always great to see your teammates perform well; I have faith it will lead to wins for us,” David said.
Regarding the pitch, which witnessed around 500 runs scored, David commended its true nature with minimal seam movement or spin. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers who adeptly varied their pace.
“It was a pretty true surface. There wasn’t much seam movement or spin. SRH bowled well, especially varying their pace, making it difficult for us to score,” he commented.
While Mumbai Indians couldn’t secure a win, David remained optimistic about the team’s performance, acknowledging the high level of skill required to compete in the IPL.
