[Saba Sports News] Sunrisers Hyderabad faced Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Kolkata dominated, defeating Sunrisers by eight wickets to clinch the title. After the game, SRH owner Kavya Maran was seen in tears as her team failed to show resilience and suffered a significant defeat.
KKR chased down the target of 114 in just 10.3 overs, with 57 balls to spare, highlighting their dominance. SRH, batting first, struggled against KKR’s disciplined bowling attack. Wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing any momentum.
Abhishek Sharma (2), Travis Head (0), and Rahul Tripathi (9) were dismissed early, leaving SRH at 21/3. Brief resistance came from Aiden Markram (20) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (13), but they too succumbed under pressure. Pat Cummins’ late effort (24 off 19) was the only notable performance as SRH were bowled out for a meager 113 in 18.3 overs. Andre Russell took three wickets for 19 runs, while Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana claimed two wickets each.
KKR’s chase was led by a blistering innings from Venkatesh Iyer, who scored an unbeaten 52 off 26 balls. Despite losing Sunil Narine (6) early, Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39 off 32) formed a commanding partnership, steering KKR towards the target.
Although Gurbaz fell just before the finish line, Iyer, along with Shreyas Iyer (6*), ensured a smooth finish, sealing the win in 10.3 overs.
