[Saba Sports News] In preparation for the 17th IPL season, Punjab Kings have made a significant move by releasing Wasim Jaffer, their batting consultant, from the backroom staff. Jaffer, a former Indian opener, was part of the team’s coaching staff in 2023, working alongside head coach Trevor Bayliss. With Sanjay Bangar now serving as the cricket director and fulfilling the batting coach responsibilities, the franchise saw no further requirement for Jaffer’s services.
The team underwent a major overhaul before IPL 2023, with Trevor Bayliss stepping in as the head coach, succeeding Anil Kumble, and bringing on Charl Langeveldt and Brad Haddin for the bowling and assistant coach roles, respectively. Despite these changes, the Kings had a disappointing season, failing to advance beyond the group stage, securing only six wins from 14 matches and finishing eighth.
As the new season looms, the Punjab Kings are eager to improve their performance, buoyed by the availability of England’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow and other key players. The team, which has struggled to replicate its 2014 runner-up success, is looking to turn its fortunes around in the upcoming IPL edition.
