[Saba Sports News] On the eve of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final, Australia captain Pat Cummins addressed the media at the pre-match press conference, shedding light on crucial aspects leading up to the high-stakes clash against the Rohit Sharma-led India at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
A lot of noise has been made before and after the semi-final match between India and New Zealand, with accusations directed at the BCCI for allegedly switching the pitch from a fresh one to a used one, a move some believe favored India in reaching the summit clash. The clamor persists as similar voices and concerns resurface ahead of the final.
Nevertheless, in the presser ahead of the final between India and Australia, Cummins provided some insights into how the pitch could behave.
“I’m not a great pitch reader, but it looked pretty firm. They’ve only just watered it, so yeah, give it another 24 hours and have a look, but it looks like a pretty good wicket,” Cummins was quoted as saying.
According to reports, the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 will be played on the used pitch, most probably the one in which the India versus Pakistan league match was played.
Cummins delved into the team’s approach to adapting to Indian conditions, emphasizing the importance of finding a balance in using different ball variations.
“You’ve got to be brave with some of the balls you use, slower balls, bouncers; you’ve got to find that balance between mixing it up and not going chasing too much. I think we’ve struck that balance pretty well, and at least over here in India, a lot of times by the end of the innings, things like cutters work perhaps better than they do elsewhere in the world,” he added.
