[Saba Sports News] In response to a recent prominent
gambling incident in Italian football, the Italian Association for the
Protection of Environmental and Consumer Rights (Codacons) has issued a
statement urging public and private television stations to cease advertising
related to gambling during football match broadcasts. Codacons emphasised the
need to protect young people from the influence of gambling advertisements,
particularly during football matches, which tend to attract a younger audience.
The association stated, “Despite our efforts in recent years to educate
young people about online betting and the risks associated with gambling, they
are still exposed to a barrage of gambling advertisements during football
matches.” Codacons emphasised that gambling addiction is a pathological behaviour
that can have severe consequences for individuals and families, and it should
not be underestimated or allowed to permeate people’s minds. The association
called for immediate action to address this issue.
