[Saba Sports News] Day 3 of the first Test between England and the West Indies might be the last time cricket fans see James Anderson as a professional cricketer. The legendary pacer is set to retire after this Test at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, where he has delivered some of his most memorable spells during his illustrious career spanning over two decades.
The West Indies have struggled in the Test, with the hosts dominating the first two days. The Caribbean side is at 79/6 in their second innings, still needing 171 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Given the circumstances, the game is unlikely to extend to Day 4. Fans gathered in large numbers at Lord’s to watch Anderson in action potentially for the last time. As he made his way through the historic long room to start play on Day 3, he received a standing ovation.
In a video posted by Lord’s Cricket Ground on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Anderson was seen waiting patiently as his teammates prepared to give him a guard of honour. Fighting back tears, he acknowledged the applause from the crowd.
In the first innings, Anderson bowled 10.4 overs, taking the wicket of Jayden Seales while conceding 26 runs and bowling three maidens. In the second innings, he delivered 10 overs, giving away just 11 runs and taking the crucial wickets of Kraigg Brathwaite and Alick Athanaze. Despite a chance to add to his wicket tally, he finished Day 3 without taking another wicket.
