[Saba Sports News] Jasprit Bumrah had limited experience when Mumbai Indians signed him for IPL 2013. In his debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 4, he conceded three consecutive boundaries to Virat Kohli in his first over.
However, he made a strong comeback by dismissing Kohli on the fourth ball, marking the start of an incredible career.
Reflecting on his early days with Mumbai Indians, Bumrah shared that he heavily relied on captain Rohit Sharma to set the field. Over time, he learned to take on this responsibility himself.
“When I started playing IPL, I used to tell Rohit Sharma, ‘You set the field; I trust you.’ Slowly, I realized I can’t be overly dependent on others and began learning the craft,” Bumrah shared.
Bumrah also revealed his admiration for Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose story resonated with him. Both athletes come from families with little knowledge of their respective sports and fought against the odds to succeed.
“I’m a fan of Ibrahimovic. His story resonated with me as I came from a family where nobody knew about the sport. I hope to meet him one day,” Bumrah said.
