[Saba Sports News] n a recent conversation with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum positioned himself as the NBA’s top talent amidst a constellation of stars.
During the interview, when questioned about who he views as the league’s premier player, Tatum confidently chose himself, acknowledging the immense talent of peers like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, and Joel Embiid, who have all clinched MVP titles.
He emphasized his belief in his superiority on the court, a stark contrast to a previous statement where he had tipped Giannis for the top spot.
“Myself,” Tatum replied. “I got a lot respect for a lot guys in the league. Giannis [Antetokounmpo], for sure. [Nikola] Jokic, obviously just won. [Joel] Embiid. Guys that won MVPs. And that list goes on. The league is in a great place.”
“I truly do believe every night I step on the floor, I’m the best player.”
Tatum’s performance in the 2023-24 season has been impressive, boasting an average of 27.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists across 52 games before the All-Star break, showcasing his pivotal role in a Celtics team that leads the NBA.
Although not a frontrunner in the MVP race, leading the league’s top team strengthens his argument in the ongoing debate over the best player. Tatum suggests that clinching the 18th championship for the Celtics could be the definitive proof of his elite status.
