[Saba Sports News] Ace England pacer Jofra Archer is aiming for a Test cricket return during the Ashes in Australia in 2025-26.
After spending nearly 18 months sidelined, the 29-year-old made his comeback during the SA20 2023. He played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 but suffered an elbow injury, ruling him out of the Ashes 2023 and ODI World Cup.
Archer recently returned to international cricket ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, a red-ball return is still distant. England’s managing director, Rob Key, stated the team isn’t rushing Archer back into Test cricket, prioritizing his full recovery.
Archer expressed frustration over injury rumors on Instagram and is determined to recover well this year to be ready for the Ashes 2025-26.
“I’m using the rest of this year to make playing in the next Ashes a possibility. I’m tired of seeing posts saying ‘he’ll be on the physio’s bed in two weeks.’ I want to prove people wrong and hopefully play in another Ashes,” Archer told BBC Sport.
Key expects Archer to make his Test comeback during the India series in 2025. Archer plans to play a few Championship games to monitor his fitness and manage his workload before returning to Test cricket.
“I’ll manage myself and aim for the start of the Championship next year, playing a few games to build up for Test cricket. I’m feeling good and want to get some games in. I’ll enjoy this phase of white-ball cricket,” Archer said.
