[Saba Sports News] Brian Lara has backed Virat Kohli to regain his form when India faces Bangladesh in their second Super Eight game of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Antigua on Saturday, June 22.
Kohli had a stellar IPL season, winning the Orange Cap for the second time. However, he has struggled in the T20 World Cup, scoring 1, 4, and 0 in the first three games against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA. On June 20, Kohli managed a run-a-ball 24 against Afghanistan in Barbados. Lara believes the time Kohli spent at the crease will benefit him and expects him to perform well against Bangladesh.
“24 off 24 may not seem great, but the important thing is he spent time at the crease. I believe Virat Kohli will grow stronger in the Caribbean. In Antigua, you’ll see him plough through and score runs,” Lara said on Star Sports.
India’s management opted for Kohli as skipper Rohit Sharma’s opening partner, leaving Yashasvi Jaiswal on the bench. This decision has faced criticism, but Lara emphasized patience, noting Kohli’s potential as a big-match player.
“When he hits full swing, it’s a different story. We need to be patient with him; there are still many games left in this World Cup,” Lara added.
