Henry has been called up by the Lucknow Super Giants to take David Willey’s
position in the lineup. For personal reasons, Willey withdrew from the IPL this
year in the beginning, but he has since withdrawn from the competition
altogether.
The left-arm quick of England Willey spent the previous two seasons with Royal
Challengers Bengaluru before being acquired by LSG at last year’s mini-auction
in Dubai for his basic price of INR 2 crore (about US $239,856). Prior to the
IPL, Willey had already spent two months travelling, having played for the Abu
Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 and the Multan Sultans in the PSL.
Willey was playing
in the World Cup in India prior to it.
Henry, who cost INR 1.25 crores to acquire, comes into the IPL fresh off a
productive domestic summer playing Tests against Australia and South Africa.
Prior to then, he had taken 11 wickets at a pace of 28.63 in the ODI World Cup,
making him his side’s third-highest wicket taker.
Henry has participated in 131 T20 matches overall and taken 151 wickets. Only
two of those games, though, were in the 2017 Indian Premier League, where he
was a member of Kings XI Punjab. In those five matches, he bowled five overs
and claimed just one wicket.
Henry had also given his name for this season’s auction, but had gone unsold.
He has earlier been part of Chennai Super Kings’ squad, although didn’t get the
chance to represent them.
